What Is Spray Adhesive?

Spray adhesive is a contact-type bonding agent delivered through an aerosol can or bulk spray gun system. The adhesive is atomized into fine droplets that coat the substrate surface in a thin, uniform layer, creating a tacky film that bonds on contact when two coated surfaces are pressed together. This application method provides several key advantages over brush-applied or roller-applied adhesives: faster coverage of large surface areas, more uniform film thickness, reduced adhesive consumption per square meter, and the ability to bond porous and irregular substrates without excessive adhesive buildup.

The underlying chemistry of spray adhesive is similar to contact adhesive — typically based on SBS (styrene-butadiene-styrene) rubber, synthetic rubber blends, or chloroprene rubber dissolved in a solvent carrier.
