Our Services
Custom Adhesive Formulation Service
Our in-house R&D team develops custom adhesive and sealant formulations tailored to your specific application requirements. From adjusting viscosity and open time to creating entirely new formulations for unique substrates, we turn your technical requirements into production-ready products.
Why Custom Formulation Matters
Off-the-shelf adhesive products work for many standard applications. But when your production process involves unusual substrates, extreme temperature conditions, specific regulatory requirements, or unique performance demands, a standard product may fall short. That is where custom formulation delivers measurable value — an adhesive engineered specifically for your application performs better, reduces waste, and eliminates the compromises of using a generic product.
ChinaGluePro's R&D team has formulated custom adhesives for shoe factories switching from solvent-based to water-based contact adhesive, furniture manufacturers needing higher heat resistance for HPL lamination in tropical climates, and construction material distributors requiring REACH-compliant sealants for European export.
Whether you need a minor adjustment to an existing product (viscosity, open time, tack speed) or a fundamentally new formulation for a specialized application, our lab has the equipment, raw materials, and expertise to develop it. We work with all major polymer systems — chloroprene (neoprene), SBS, polyurethane, silicone, acrylic, and EVA — across solvent-based, water-based, and hot-melt platforms.
R&D Capabilities
Dedicated R&D Laboratory
Our formulation lab is equipped for adhesive development, testing, and quality analysis. We can adjust base polymer systems (neoprene, SBS, PU, silicone, acrylic), solvent blends, tackifier ratios, and filler compositions to achieve your target performance specifications.
Application-Specific Development
We formulate for specific use cases — high-temperature bonding for automotive interiors, low-VOC adhesives for European compliance, fast-tack formulas for high-speed production lines, and flexible bonds for materials that undergo repeated stress or bending.
Performance Testing & Validation
Every custom formulation undergoes rigorous testing: peel strength (180° and T-peel), shear strength, heat resistance, cold resistance, open time, tack speed, viscosity, and solid content. Test results are documented in a full Technical Data Sheet (TDS).
Substrate Compatibility Testing
We test formulations against your actual substrates — leather, fabric, PVC, ABS, polypropylene, rubber, wood, metal, glass, concrete, and composites. Send us your materials and we test bond performance under real-world conditions.
Regulatory Compliance Formulation
Need REACH-compliant adhesive for EU export? Low-VOC formulation for green building certification? Halogen-free adhesive for electronics? We formulate to meet specific regulatory and environmental standards required by your target market.
Scale-Up to Production
Once the lab formulation is approved, we scale up through pilot batches (50-100kg) to full production batches. Process parameters are documented and locked to ensure batch-to-batch consistency at production scale.
Development Process
Technical Consultation
Discuss your application requirements, substrates, performance targets, environmental conditions, and regulatory constraints with our technical team. We review existing formulations or propose a new development path.
Lab Formulation
Our R&D chemists develop 2-3 candidate formulations in the lab. Initial screening tests are run to evaluate basic performance — viscosity, tack, bond strength, and working properties.
Performance Testing
Selected formulations undergo full performance testing including peel strength, shear resistance, heat/cold aging, and substrate compatibility. Test results are compiled into a preliminary TDS for your review.
Sample Approval
We send test samples (1-5kg) for your in-house evaluation. Based on your feedback, we fine-tune the formulation — adjusting viscosity, open time, tack speed, or other parameters as needed.
Pilot Production & Scale-Up
Approved formulation moves to pilot production (50-100kg batch). After pilot batch validation, we lock the production formula and process parameters for consistent mass production.
Application Examples
Common Custom Formulation Requests
Low-VOC / Water-Based Conversion
Reformulating solvent-based products to meet REACH, EU VOC, or green building standards without sacrificing bond performance.
High-Temperature Resistance
Adhesives for automotive interiors, industrial ovens, or tropical climate applications requiring sustained performance above 80°C.
Fast-Tack Production Formulas
Contact adhesives with reduced open time for high-speed production lines — achieving handling strength in under 5 minutes.
Flexible Bond for Soft Materials
Adhesives that maintain flexibility after curing — for leather goods, footwear, and products that bend or flex during use.
Substrate-Specific Bonding
Formulations optimized for difficult substrates — polypropylene, HDPE, oily metals, treated fabrics, or composite materials.
Color-Matched Adhesives
Transparent, white, black, or custom-color adhesives and sealants to match finished product aesthetics.
Technical Details
Formulation Capabilities
Base polymer systems: chloroprene rubber (CR/neoprene), styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS), polyurethane (PU), silicone, acrylic, and EVA. Solvent systems: toluene-free, low-VOC, and water-based options. Viscosity range: 500-50,000 mPa·s. Solid content: 15%-85%. We can formulate contact adhesives, spray adhesives, shoe adhesives, sealants, and construction adhesives.
Testing Equipment
Universal testing machine for peel and shear strength. Viscometer (Brookfield) for viscosity measurement. Oven for heat aging tests (-40°C to 200°C). Salt spray chamber for corrosion testing. VOC analysis equipment. Tensile testing for elongation and tear strength. All testing follows ISO and ASTM standards.
Development Timeline
Standard formulation development: 2-4 weeks from technical brief to approved lab sample. Complex formulations (new polymer systems or multi-component products): 4-8 weeks. Pilot production and scale-up: additional 1-2 weeks. Rush development is available for time-sensitive projects with a priority surcharge.
